If it is your first trip and you want the easiest sightseeing start, choose Sultanahmet. If you want a better evening base, choose Galata/Karakoy/Beyoglu. If food and local neighborhoods matter more than old-city convenience, choose Kadikoy.
Choosing without overthinking
For a first Istanbul trip, do not chase a perfect center. Pick the tradeoff you actually want. Sultanahmet saves energy for monuments. Galata, Karakoy, and Beyoglu make evenings easier. Kadikoy gives a stronger food-and-neighborhood feel.
If your flight arrives late or you travel with heavy luggage, compare airport access before locking the hotel.
